The objective of our inaugural 2-day Careers Workshop is to provide students with insights to help them make informed decisions on career choice, and also equip students with skills to help them succeed in the interview and job hunting process. The speakers and mentors in the workshop will be Oxford and Cambridge alumni in different fields, such as banking, management consulting, corporate, and entrepreneurship, all extremely keen to pass on their advice and experiences to the new generation of Oxford and Cambridge graduates, as well as forming lasting relationships.

So if you are interested in learning more about your dream career, or meeting like-minded Oxford and Cambridge alumni, do not hesitate to sign up for our Careers Workshop. Places are first come first served!

Summer mentoring program has become one of the regular events of The Friends of Cambridge University in Hong Kong.

The objective of the mentoring program is for experience alumni to share their experience with the undergraduates and other alumni. This is the best opportunity to hear first hand about certain professions, find out the key success factors and avoid making critical mistakes, or simply to meet more established alumni. (Please note that this program is for Cambridge University alumni and students only)

Another good turn out and great speakers, a big thank you goes to Becky, Stan and Patricia.

On 1 Aug 2009, we had the 3rd session of the Cambridge University Mentorship seminar series 2009. Dominic delivered a presentation on the basics of being a management consultant, together with Karen, Herbert and Dexter, we shared with the attendants stories, tips and more about the industry.

The Friends of Cambridge University in Hong Kong hosted the 2nd mentorship program this summer, the topic was Travel and Charity. The speakers were Melody who spoke about her experience working at Cathay Pacific as a management trainee, Elaine spoke about her trip to Vietnam with Orbis, Maggie spoke about her trip to Calcutta, India and worked at Missionaries of Charity established in 1950 by Mother Teresa, and also Gloria spoke about her experience in teaching English in remote area of Thailand and also worked with UNESCO at their Bangkok branch. They shared interesting photos and videos of their trips.

We had our 1st session of the mentorship program on Sat 11 July, the topic was CV and interview workshop. I spoke along side with Stan, Herbert, Karen and Becky. Herbert had kindly prepared a structured discussion framework to share with the attendants (students and young alumni alike), we all chip in on our stories and advice. The response was great and we over-ran for by 1.5 hrs. So glad that we have found the right format since last year to host such event, both the attendants and speakers told me that they enjoyed and learned a lot :-)

Ms Winnie Kwan (Economics, Trinity) - The Capital Group Companies, she formerly worked at Morgan Stanley
Ms Bianca Law (Economics, Pembroke) - Standard Chartered, she formerly worked at Citibank, Credit Sussie
Ms Jenny Tse (Chemical Engineering, New Hall) - UBS, she formerly worked at Dah Sing Bank

Nearly 30 students turned up on the 1st of the 3 seminars and we had a very good interactive session where the speakers shared their experience in working at various consulting firms and the students asked a lot of questions about how to get in this industry.

Ms Ada Chu (St John's) - McKinsey & Company
