			<description>Tuesday March 12
Dr Simon Taylor Lecture: What is the Future for Western Banks?
6pm at the Asia Society Hong Kong Center, Lee Quo Wai Room.
9 Justice Drive, Admiralty (right next to the British Consulate-General)

Unpopular, shrinking and increasingly regulated, Western banks are having a difficult time. The stock market values them at below their book value, implying they will do a poor job in future. Graduates increasingly regard them as embarrassing to work for. So what&#8217;s the future for these banks? Is this just a temporary phase before returning to steady growth and strong profitability? Or are they likely to be more like utilities in future &#8211; useful, slow growing and dull. How likely is it that we face another bank-driven financial crisis in future? Simon, himself a former employee of JP Morgan and Citigroup, will share some thoughts on the likely future for the major banks of the US and Europe.
