Re: Prince Philip Scholarship - Application Scheme

Every year, through the Prince Philip Scholarship, The Friends of Cambridge University in Hong Kong support the most talented local young people to pursue their tertiary education in one of the most renowned universities in the world – Cambridge University. As part of our on-going effort to introduce Cambridge University and the Prince Philip Scholarship to the top students in Hong Kong, you and your students are cordially invited to participate in the following events:

PRINCE PHILIP SCHOLARSHIP SEMINAR
The Prince Philip Scholarship Seminar, which provides important information about the Scholarship, e.g. the application procedures, selection criteria and working schedule, will be held from 5pm to 6:30pm on September 9th, 2010 (Thursday) in The Seminar Room, 22nd Floor, Bank of East Asia Building, 10 Des Voeux Road Central, Hong Kong. Current undergraduate students of Cambridge University, as well as representatives from the scholarship’s Selection Committee, will be present to meet you and your students and offer their advice on the Scholarship as well as studies at Cambridge.
Since 2005, secondary six students can also apply for the Scholarship under “the Form 6 Application Scheme”. Along with teachers and secondary seven students, secondary six students who are interested in the scholarship are also welcome to the seminar. Due to limited seats, we can only allocate at most three places per school on a first-come-first-served basis. Please kindly sign up by filling out the online form

ALUMNI EXPERIENCE SHARING
Our Cambridge alumni in Hong Kong are delighted to visit their own secondary schools to talk to students in secondary five to seven and share with them the experience and benefits of studying abroad and particularly at Cambridge. We believe such experience sharing would give the students an invaluable opportunity to learn more about overseas studies in an informal way. We will be happy to arrange an alumnus/alumna of your school who has studied at Cambridge to conduct a sharing session at your school if resources allow, and if the demand warrants, a separate seminar may be held.

The Prince Philip Scholarship

NOTES

The generosity of a number of Hong Kong citizens has allowed the establishment of the Scholarship to enable Hong Kong students to attend the University of Cambridge with, where necessary, full financial support. His Royal Highness, Prince Philip, being Chancellor of the University, has graciously allowed his name to be associated with the Scholarship.

Value of the Scholarship

The Scholarship includes a non-means tested cash award of ?2,500 per annum. One Hong Kong-London-Hong Kong economy class return air ticket will also be awarded free of means test results. Where necessary, the Scholarship also provides financial assistance for the students to meet the costs of tuition and subsistence. Decisions about this extra claim are based on a means test.

Tenure

The Scholarship is reviewed annually in the light of academic progress and is normally extended for the duration of the undergraduate course of three or four years.

Eligibility for a Scholarship

To be eligible for a Scholarship, a student should either have been born in Hong Kong or have acquired “Hong Kong belonger” status through long residence. Students eligible for United Kingdom Home Fee Status will not be considered for a Prince Philip Scholarship.

A: All application form must be sent and endorsed by your school master/principal. We will not process the form if sent by the student directly

A: Yes, Prince Philip Scholarship recipients are guranteed a place in Cambridge Univeristy

Q: I already have a first degree, am I eligible to apply to Prince Philip Scholarship?
A: No. The Scholarship aims to support Hong Kong students to pursue their first degree
