Sat 4 Nov 2006: Charity event jointly organised by Cambridge University Alumni Club & St. James Settlement Rehabilitation Services

Permalink Categories: 02 Events

Charity event jointly organised by Cambridge University Alumni Club & St. James Settlement Rehabilitation Services

In the past year, many of you have taken part in two very successful English workshops jointly organised by Cambridge Charity Group and St. James Settlement for less fortunate primary school kids in Chai Wan and Yuen Long. This time, we are branching out to reach a different community, the mentally challenged members of our society.

This upcoming event aims to bring music, sports and other outdoor recreational activities to the mentally challenged members residing at the St. James Settlement Rehabilitation Centre. Our goal is to stimulate their creative powers, help them build interpersonal skills and build up their confidence in an interactive, fun-filled environment with lots of stimulants including sight, sound, smell and of course smiles!

Date : 4 November 2006, Saturday

Time: 8:30am - 4pm

Event: Half-day tour at the Hong Kong Music Farm in the New Territories

Activities: Different games will be organised, for example, learning how to make bread and pottery, handicrafts, singing timeless favourites with guitar

Number of volunteers required: minimum 22

Cost per volunteer: HK$280 (covering transportation to Music Farm, admission fees for participants, a yummy lunch and gifts)

Don't miss this chance to participate in a very meaningful event. For those who are interested, please email any of us before 31 October 2006 to reserve a place!

---Here is a message from the item leader Ken, Bianca and Nadine--- I would to express my sincere thanks to all of you who came to our Funny English Learning Workshop. I hope you had a good time and enjoyed 'dealing' with the kids! And special thanks to those who gave extra help in the organising the event, preparing for the materials, giving presentation and being the MCs, etc.! You've done a great job!

I spoke with the teachers afterwards and they thought the event went pretty well and I was told that the kids enjoyed themselves very much too!

Here is the link to some photos taken on the day. More will be uploaded soon and I will let you know again.

Thank you once again and see you soon!

Report: Funny English Workshop 15 Oct 2005

Permalink Categories: 03 Event report

A charity event – “Funny English Workshop” was conducted on 15 Oct 2005, jointly organised by our alumni club (Ken, Nadine and Bianca) and St James Settlement. Many alumni participated and the event was enjoyed by many children. Please see Ken’s note below.

“We are happy to have arranged a voluntary activity with St James' Settlement. This voluntary project aims to provide an opportunity for the children to raise their understanding of English through some simple games and quiz. Also, through this kind of voluntary projects, we hope to raise the community's awareness of those children from the less privileged families and the new immigrants.”
