Prince Philip Scholarship tenable at Cambridge University – Information Seminar

Every year, through the Prince Philip Scholarship, The Friends of Cambridge University in Hong Kong support the most talented local young people to pursue their tertiary education in one of the most renowned universities in the world – Cambridge University. The Scholarship covers up to the full cost of all fees, accommodation and living expenses for a full undergraduate programme at the University. As part of our on-going effort to introduce Cambridge University and the Prince Philip Scholarship to students who are keen to challenge themselves, you or your representative and your students are cordially invited to attend the Prince Philip Scholarship Information Seminar.

The seminar, which will cover important information on application procedures, selection criteria and working schedule, will be held from 5:00pm to 7:00pm on 9th September, 2013 (Monday) at 22nd Floor, The Bank of East Asia Building, 10 Des Voeux Road Central, Hong Kong. Representatives from the Scholarship’s Selection Committee (including professors from Cambridge University), will be present to meet you and your students to provide advice and information on admissions to Cambridge. Current undergraduate students will also be there to share with your students their experience of Cambridge.

The Scholarship is reviewed annually in the light of academic progress and is normally extended for the duration of the undergraduate course of three or four years.

To be eligible for a Scholarship a student should either have been born in Hong Kong or have acquired "Hong Kong belonger" status through long residence. Students eligible for United Kingdom Home Fee Status will not be considered for a Prince Philip Scholarship.

All applications for a Prince Philip Scholarships should be submitted by the 15th of October each year.

Selection is primarily by a panel representing the University of Cambridge and including members from the University of Hong Kong and the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Selected candidates will be called for interview in Hong Kong in late November or early December of each year. Candidates who will not be in Hong Kong at this time may be interviewed in the United Kingdom.

NOTES

The generosity of a number of Hong Kong citizens has allowed the establishment of the Scholarship to enable Hong Kong students to attend the University of Cambridge with, where necessary, full financial support. His Royal Highness, Prince Philip, being Chancellor of the University, has graciously allowed his name to be associated with the Scholarship.

Value of the Scholarship

The Scholarship includes a non-means tested cash award of GBP4,500 per annum. One Hong Kong-London-Hong Kong economy class return air ticket will also be awarded free of means test results. Where necessary, the Scholarship also provides financial assistance for the students to meet the costs of tuition and subsistence. Decisions about this extra claim are based on a means test.

The Scholarship is reviewed annually in the light of academic progress and is normally extended for the duration of the undergraduate course of three or four years.

Eligibility for a Scholarship
